Saturday, 30 October:

  • Dead Kenny G’s and Snuff Jazz:
    Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club. $10 at the door. Must be 21 years of age or older for this venue. Mark Southerland apparently never sleeps, as this follows See Saw tonight. The ubiquitous Rich Wheeler (sax) joins Snuff Jazz, with Dead Kenny G’s featuring Mike Dillon on vibes.

When Saturday, 23 October, becomes Sunday, 24 October…

  • Mutual Musicians Foundation Jam: from 1:30-5:30 am (1823 Highland Avenue — doors open at Midnight) — free for musicians (bring your instrument), $10 for the rest of us. This week’s Sunday-morning jam is led by Osmond Fisher.

Sunday, 24 October:

  • Alaturka: 8 pm, Jardine’s$8 in advance, $10 at the door. Third-to-last chance to catch Sait Arat before he takes a break, playing along with his usual quartet-mates — Beau Bledsoe (guitar/oud), Rich Wheeler (tenor sax) and Bill McKemey (bass) — and special-guest vocalists Yavuz Silay (Turkey) and Karim Memi (Argentina)
  • Sunday, 24 October:

    • Dear Diary at The Fishtank (1715 Wyandotte Street), 7–10 pm — $5 donation (all ages admitted). Mortifying moments of adolescence and beyond–a live reading of real diary entries from some of Kansas City’s finest writers and performers.

    • New Jazz Order: FREE at Harling’s (3941-A Main Street, upstairs: enter through the double doors bearing the street number, but no name — just “Southwell Building” — right at the foot of Westport Road), 9 pm-Midnight, this Tuesday and every Tuesday.

    Friday, 29 October

    • Hearts of Darkness and Chicago Afrobeat Project</STRONG): The Bottleneck (737 New Hampshire, Lawrence, KS), 9 pm–1 am. You drive? You can catch Hearts of Darkness two nights in a row by going to Lawrence, where they open for their Afro-beating friends from Chicago.
