My name’s Don Adams, and I’m new to Kansas City, coming up on the second anniversary of moving here. Increasingly, though, I’m meeting people who’ve arrived since I did: welcome!
Because I work in the arts, I’ve made it my business to figure out what’s going on around here as quickly as possible — especially because what’s happening in Kansas City’s performing-arts scene right now is so exciting.
I follow alternative cultural work — theater, dance, music, independent media, and community-based arts that:
- express a new point of view — of an individual or community
- are socially and politically engaged
- are challenging — aesthetically or in any other way
I like other things, too — early European music, for example; and I like to stumble on new stuff, too. You’ll find a wide variety of work here, despite the fact that they are all my choices.
I only plan to write about things I love, in hopes that you’ll find things you love, too. I’ll update each listing with our upcoming chances to catch the artists I’m writing about. Barring some conflicting event, I bet I’ll see you there.
Please let me know if there’s something you already love that I’m not seeing. People have recommended everyone I see.
